Which Hawaiian Island is the Most Beautiful?
I get asked all of the time – which Hawaiian island is the most beautiful?
My answer:
Whatever Hawaiian island I am on!
I love all of them for different reasons and they are all amazing and beautiful in different ways. So it’s very hard to answer that question as beauty is so subjective and I also think it depends on what you’re wanting to see.
Let me give me my travel agent answer of the rundown of the different islands.
Oahu
Oahu is the most populated island – it is where the world-famous Waikiki beach is located as well as Pearl Harbor. For those not wanting to stay in the busy Waikiki area – there are plenty of other locations. The North Shore of Oahu is close to the Polynesian Cultural Center. There are a few resorts there as well as home rentals. Ko’Olina is another favorite area of mine – home to Disney’s Aulani Resort, Four Seasons and a handful of other condos.
Oahu has plenty of beautiful beaches, but try to do your sightseeing on the weekends and save for beaches for the weekdays as you will have less crowds due to the locals hanging out more on the weekends.
Kauai
Kauai is probably what most people tend to picture as the most beautiful as far as lush and green. Jurassic Park was filmed here as well as a host of other movies due to its green and jungle like vegetation in spots. Kauai’s beauty never disappoints as beautiful beaches and vegetation are plentiful! Waterfalls, gorgeous cliffs and even a spectacular canyon are what you can expect in Kauai. But, there’s not much to do after the sun goes down.
Maui
Maui is my pick for people who want a mixture of beautify and nightlife. I’ve probably spent the most time on Maui as my kids love it. On the west side of the island it tends to be sunny most of the time. If you want a breathtaking drive – the Road to Hana is incredible! If you want to sit back and relax on the drive, opt for going with a small tour company.
Big Island
The Big Island has a completely different look than the others. The west coast is very dry and sunny while the eastern coast gets more rain and therefore it is very green in the Hilo area. This is the island to visit if you want to see live volcanoes (eastern side). You can also see waterfalls here as well as a green sand beach.
Each of the 4 main islands is so different – that it warrants a visit to all of them. Many of my clients choose to visit 2 islands each trip. But, if you want to immerse yourself in the island, do one at a time.
